Personally I don't generally like a turkey burger, but the Thai flavors in this one really give it personality. I find the flavors fresh and pungent all at the same time and the addition of curry paste makes it sing! You could put this on a bun and top it with the slaw and maybe some avocado, but I didn't feel like bread when I made this. I don't think you'll be disappointed!
  • 2 lbs ground turkey thigh meat
  • 4 scallions, thinly sliced
  • 2 minced shallots
  • 4 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp red curry paste
  • ½ tsp sea salt
  • 2 tbsp Thai basil
  • 2 carrots, washed and grated
  • 4 scallions, thinly sliced
  • ¼ head shredded red cabbage
  • 1 red pepper, thinly sliced
  • 2-3 tbsp chopped mint
  • 3 tbsp chopped Thai basil
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp grated ginger
  • ¼ tsp chile garlic paste
  • 1 tsp raw honey
  • ¼ cup fresh lemon juice
  • ¼ cup Tamari
  • 2 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp black sesame seeds
  1. For the burgers, combine all of the prepared ingredients in a large mixing bowl and mix with your hands until everything is evenly distributed.
  2. Cook a small bit in a skillet and taste for seasoning. Adjust if necessary.
  3. Form into 6-8 patties and set aside.
  4. Now prepare the slaw. Prep all ingredients and place in a large mixing bowl.
  5. Toss to combine and allow to rest while you cook the burgers.
  6. Allow your grill to heat up and clean it well with a wire brush.
  7. Lower heat to medium and place the patties on the grill. You want to cook them for about 10-12 minutes, turning only once. The internal temperature should be 165 degrees. If you overcook these guys, they will be dry, so invest in a meat thermometer.
  8. Allow your patties to rest for 10 minutes before serving to allow moisture to redistribute for a better burger!
  9. Serve with the Asian Slaw.
