How could I have left out breakfast for so long?? This yummy oatmeal is going to satisfy you and keep you full for hours. Steel-cut oats are my favorite because of their chewy texture and low glycemic index. I love to jazz up my oats with antioxidant rich chia seeds, omega-3 rich hemp hearts and appetite controlling cinnamon.
  • 3 cups water
  • ½ tsp sea salt
  • 1 cup steel-cut oatmeal
  • 2 tbsp chopped walnuts
  • 2 tbsp ground chia seeds
  • 2 tbsp hemp hearts
  • 2 dates, chopped
  • 1 banana, diced
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • ½ cups unsweetened almond milk
  1. Bring the water and sea salt to a boil. Stir in the oatmeal and reduce heat to low. Cover, but keep stirring occassionally to prevent boiling over.
  2. In a separate pan, heat the almond milk with all remaining ingredients except banana. Keep warm until oatmeal finishes cooking.
  3. Stir the almond milk mixture into the oatmeal and cook until desired consistency is reached. I like mine thick.
  4. Spoon into 4-5 bowls and top with chopped banana.
  5. If you are not eating the whole pot right away, this can store in the fridge up to 5 days without the banana. Just add to a pan and reheat on med-low.
